Greece Editorial Review
The Twelve Caesars (Penguin Classics) presents Suetonius' captivating biographical sketches of the first twelve Roman Emperors, revealing their personal lives and the superstitions surrounding their often grisly ends. Suetonius, who was a private secretary to Emperor Hadrian, digs deep into the corrupt nature of power, making his narrative both engaging and thought-provoking. This classic work excels in storytelling and history, paralleling modern narratives like Game of Thrones and Star Wars, showcasing the never-fading allure of power dynamics. Readers enjoy the lively gossip while gaining insights into the political landscapes of ancient Rome, despite some minor issues like small print size in certain editions.
