Several customers have reported that the photos and circuit diagram provided with the product show the use of a TLC555 timer component, but the actual supplied timer is an NE555. This discrepancy becomes problematic for those using a 3.3V power supply, as the NE555 timer does not have a 3.3V specification. For these customers, the sensor cannot be relied upon for 3.3V usage. This is a well-documented problem with the supply of this type of sensor. While the sensors were found to be compatible with a 3.3V power supply by some users, there are other generic issues associated with this type of sensor. These include a small output voltage difference observed between wet and dry soil and the need for individual calibration of each sensor. With the additional complication of the incorrect timer being supplied, some customers found it too complex to work with.
